Category  Expectorant.

       Squill Tincture may be prepared as follows. 
       Squill, brused                                        100  g
       Ethanol (60 Per Cent)                           1000  mL
       Prepare by maceration (Appendix 7.18).

Dose  0.3 to 2 mL.

Warning  Large doses produce nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Additional information  Squill has a digitalis-like action on the heart.

Weight per millilitre  0.925 to 0.945 g (Appendix 4.9).

Ethanol content  52.0 to 57.0 per cent v/v (Appendix 6.5).

Total solids  4.5 to 6.5 per cent w/v (Appendix 7.21); use 5 mL.

Other requirements  Complies with the requirements described under “Tinctures” (Appendix 1.16).
